Domestic Violence

New Mexico has several laws that protect individuals from domestic violence or domestic abuse.

The definition of Domestic means, “of or relating to the home, the household, household affairs, or the family.” Domestic violence or domestic abuse or behavior occurs by one person wishing to control or dominate another person within a close relationship. Domestic abuse or violence can also accelerate to physical assault, and even psychological abuse.

If you are a victim of domestic violence or abuse, you can petition the Court for a protection order, (also known as a restraining order).
